I don’t blame you, Alex, for using walnut oil and walnut alkyd. Even spike lavender oil is toxic.

Hi Alex. I have used Walnut Oil before but not the Alkyd kind..What is the logic behind using a walnut oil/alkyd version? If I want to speed up drying time I've always used something else...I thought walnut oil was specifically used to lengthen drying time? Just wondered what your thoughts on that are. Thanks.

Alkyds are generally faster drying. Straight walnut oil has a longer drying time than linseed. I vary the medium I use to control drying times. Generally for alla prima I prefer a longer wet period to allow for extended time for manipulating paint on the canvas. If I know I'm going to want to paint a new layer on top of a dry layer asap (so not alla prima) I will use a faster drying medium.

Yes well just because something is classed as 'natural' doesn't mean its harmless!
